Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is a taxable benefit to help people who look after someone who is disabled (receiving middle or high rate care component in Child Disability Payment / DLA). A parent of a child with a disability may be eligible for carer’s allowance if they care for more than 35 hours per week.

A parent would not be eligible if they are in full-time education (21 hours or more a week) or earning more than £128* a week after certain deductions have been made. The weekly rate is £69.70 . This is reduced by the amount of certain other benefits, including State Pension.
