***PLEASE NOTE DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS JUST ANNOUNCED THE MOVE TO THE NEW HOSPITAL HAS BEEN DELAYED – WE WILL UPDATE YOU ONCE WE KNOW MORE***

You may have heard that the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People will be delayed due to safety concerns. It will “open when it is safe to do so”.
If you need to contact the Hospital Team, Jo, Rana or Veronica please email them in the first instance via enquiries@kindred-scotland.org or by calling 0800 031 5793, Option 1.
It may be that we take a message to pass on to them until more details, such as our telephone reconnection at Rillbank Terrace at the old “Sick Kids” is confirmed.

Whilst we understand that safety is of the highest concern, our hearts go out to everyone who is disrupted or distressed by this delay, including the children, families and of course staff.

We hope that Kindred’s “Hospital Team” will move in the near future from its base at the old “Sick Kids” to the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh at Little France.

We are delighted to have our 27 year long relationship with the original Sick Kids consolidated by being placed at the heart of this new hospital in the “Family Support Corridor”, from where Kindred will be supporting families into the future.

Rana and Joanne work part time and Veronica manages the team as well as providing support to many families herself.

Looking after a child in hospital can have a big impact on family life and there are many practical ways in which we can offer support.  Here are some examples:

  • Funding applications including assistance with travel costs
  • Benefits such as Disability Living Allowance
  • Advocacy at meetings with hospital staff
  • Access to counselling
  • Assistance with arranging to leave hospital (‘discharge planning’)

One of the most important roles for our staff is to provide a listening ear, as many families simply appreciate someone to talk to.  Kindred aims to continue working closely with hospital staff including Hospital Consultants and Specialist Nurses.  Most of our referrals at the hospital come from hospital staff.

Kindred’s Hospital Team is available from Monday to Thursday, 10 am – 2pm.

There is currently no drop in service for this team but you can contact them by calling Kindred on: 0800 031 5793, option 1 or by emailing: enquiries@kindred-scotland.org
