Rana Sallam

Information and Advocacy Worker, Hospital Team

I have worked for Kindred since 2009, mostly based in Edinburgh’s team at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and now moved into the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People RHCYP in Little France. I live in Edinburgh with my husband and 4 children. Outside work, I enjoy cooking, drawing and most importantly shopping of course.

I graduated in 2001 with a BA (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and in 2004 I got my MSc in Information Technology IT from Glasgow Caledonian University. I have been involved with a number of voluntary organisations in the community such as Women Onto Work, Nisus Scotland and Equal Opportunities Programme at Trust Housing Association. At the same time, I was a volunteer at Edinburgh University Settlement EUS Community Learning Centre, teaching computer skills to people with additional support needs. Also, I was a board member with Linknet Mentoring from 2008 to 2010.

Like many of my colleagues at Kindred, I have a close family member with additional support needs; this helps me to empathise with other families and the difficulties that they might be facing. I feel honoured to be part of a team working for such a great organisation like Kindred. I really enjoy supporting parents of children with complex needs, providing emotional support, information, practical support and contributing as much value as I can.
