Self Directed Support (SDS) Self Directed Support (SDS) means having choice and control over support for your child which is provided by social work. If your child has significant needs you will be allocated a budget. The Social Work Department will calculate how much money you can use (your individual budget). Through SDS, you or your family can spend your individual budget on services (such as respite and leisure activities) that support your child’s health and wellbeing. You or your family can manage this budget (Direct Payment), or the Council can manage it for you.
