Hospital Team

Our Hospital Team has recently moved to the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, near Little France in Edinburgh, from what was known as the "Sick Kids".

Joanne , Rana,  Mhari and Anne work part time and Veronica manages the team as well as providing support to many families herself.

One of the most important roles for our staff is to provide a listening ear, as many families simply appreciate someone to talk to and staff can meet with families on the wards. Kindred has had an office base at the Sick Kids since 1991 and we will be working closely with Family Support, Hospital Consultants and Specialist Nurses, and the Drop In Centre from our new base in the Family Support Corridor at the heart of the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. Most of our referrals at the hospital come from hospital staff.

How we make a difference

Looking after a child in hospital can have a big impact on family life and there are many practical ways in which we can offer support.  Here are some examples:

  • Funding applications including assistance with travel costs
  • Benefits such as Child Disability Payment (previously known as Disability Living Allowance)
  • Advocacy at meetings with hospital staff
  • Access to counselling
  • Assistance with arranging to leave hospital (‘discharge planning’)
